A Dutch oven cook off is a gathering of outdoors and cooking enthusiasts. It is an opportunity for them to show off their various skills and techniques in using a Dutch oven to cook plenty of meals for the attendees and contestants themselves. Recently, a similar event was held at the Sioux Recreation Area in Brandon. Contestants have to cook single dishes and meals, and judging took place later in the afternoon. The contestant who comes up with the most impressive and the most delicious meal using a Dutch oven wins. Later, everyone who participated brought potluck meals for sharing during dinner. It was an activity marked by a sense of community.
Of course, the great thing about Dutch oven cook offs is that it is mainly an opportunity to show off and also learn new techniques by fellow campers and outdoors people on how they use Dutch ovens to cook a variety of meals.
